Like all independent museums in the Highlands, Groam House Museum depends on financial support from individuals.

For 2018/19 we will receive a small grant from The Highland Council – around £6,000. But it costs around £16,000 a year just to keep the doors open; more if we are to pro-actively care for, research and interpret the collections, and employ staff.

We are determined to keep free entry. So we need volunteers, members, donations, sales from the shop, and successful events to sustain our finances.

Our members are the lifeblood of the museum, supporting our work both financially, practically and philosophically.  We would love to have more members so please consider the benefits and join in.

Be an Angel

As part of our sustainability and fund-raising programme we are looking for Angels. We ask each Angel makes a regular standing order or direct debit of just £8.50 per month or £100 per annum for the foreseeable future. Just 5 Angels would ensure we can afford interpretation panels for an exhibition. 10 Angels would enable us to pay for specialist conservation of objects like this silver mug.

As an Angel you will receive updates twice-a-year, while the supported work will also be referred to in our Newsletter. If you would like to be an angel please download a form for completion and return to the museum.

Groam House Museum is currently recruiting new volunteers to help with the day-to-day running of the museum and shop.

The work is both interesting and sociable. Volunteers usually work 3 or 4 half days per month during the season (March – October). You can decide when you would like to work, so the commitment isn’t too onerous.

Joining the volunteer team is an excellent way of making friends and enjoying the experience in the museum. There are also special benefits for volunteers, including coffee mornings, concessions, use of the museum library and occasional outings.
